A MESSAGE FROM GIVINS/SHAW SCHOOL COUNCIL
Hello and welcome to another great year at Givins/Shaw! If you’re a new parent/guardian at the school, please email firstname.lastname@example.org we can put you on our distribution list to get up to date information.
The school council is made up of parents and teachers and meet throughout the year in the school library.
There are plenty of other ways to get involved at the school including helping out at events like the ones below. (These are just a few examples of events we’ve held in the past. A full schedule will be distributed in a few weeks.)
Family BBQ / Open House
Used Clothing Sale
Yard clean up
Parent Band Night
Like most schools, we rely on families to help us fundraise to pay for activities like scientists in the classroom, sports teams, class trips, and to fund the morning snack (nutrition program).
Direct donations to the Nutrition Program
Fun Fair (ticket sales, auction, sponsorship)
Cookie Dough sales
Parent Band Night (cover charge/raffle)
WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
- Events/Fundraising Leads and Committee members - Coaching sports teams
- School council positions - Classroom liaison
- Volunteer reading buddy - And new ideas welcome!
CLASS PARENT REPRESENTATIVES (School Council Liaisons)
The Class Parent Representative is a liaison between the School Council, the parents and guardians of class students, and the classroom teacher. Their role is to support and promote communication between these groups, and aid in building community both within the classroom families, and in the greater school community.
Teachers will continue to communicate with you the way they always have. This added layer is just another way to strengthen the Givins/Shaw community by adding a personal touch.
As always, if any parents have concerns about the teachers, classroom, curriculum or other students, this should be addressed directly with the teacher or the Principal, Dan Taylor.
