How To Dribble

 
  •   Keep head up
  • Use finger pads (not palms) to maintain possession
  • Keep ball close to body

4 Basic Changes of Direction Moves

 

  • Crossover
  • Between or through the legs
  • Behind the back
  • Spin or reverse dribble

 

Tempo

 

  • Speed dribble- dribble ball shoulder height when in the open court, not closely guarded i.e. on a break-away or fastbreak
  • Protection dribble- dribble ball knee height, place body between ball and defender when closely guarded

Preparation

 

  • Bend knees.
  • Keep arms out and head up in a ready position to receive the ball.
  • Keep eyes on the ball.

 

 

Execution

 

  • Follow ball into hands.
  • Absorb force of the ball.

 

Follow-Through

 

  • Assume triple threat position.

Preparation


  • Assume athletic stance with feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Keep eyes on the target.

Execution


  • Adjust the force when passing a ball to a partner (relative to distance and object being thrown).
  • Use pads of fingers to pass or shoot a ball.

Follow-Through


  • Follow through in the direction of the target to improve aim and accuracy.
