Dear Bowmore Rd Families:
On Wednesday, September 20, we were informed by the central offices of the TDSB that our school will need to re-organize due to the increased number of students. We have been allocated two additional full-time teachers to open a new class in our junior(gr.4-5)French Immersion division and a new class in our Intermediate (gr. 7) English division. The changes will impact our FI grade 4 and grade 5 classes as we will create a new grade 4/5 FI to reduce the high numbers in grades 4 and 5. The second change will impact our English grade 7 classes as we will create a fifth class to reduce the high numbers. Finally, we have been granted two Ministry of Education exemptions to keep our FI grade 2/3 and grade 3 class at 23 students.
For the remainder of the 2023/24 school year, the organizational model for the FI Junior classes will be:
Grade 4 - room 204
Grade 4/5- room 208
Grade 5 - room 27
Grade 6 - room 310
The organization model for the English Intermediate classes will be:
Grade 7- room 107
Grade 7 - room 106
Grade 7- room 312
Grade 7 - room 303
Grade 7 - room 309
Grade 8 - room 305
Grade 8- room 306
Grade 8 -room 301
All the reorganized classes are to be established and running by Monday, October 2. Over the next few days, the Bowmore teaching staff will be following a diligent, thoughtful, and professional process to facilitate the necessary student movement for the two new classes. We will try to navigate this process with minimal disruptions for our students and families, but there will be students changing locations in the junior French immersion classes and in the English Grade seven(7) classes. Once our new classes are created, we will be connecting with the families of the students who are impacted by the change. Even though the restructured classes will not begin until Monday, October 2, we will endeavour to have the new class lists established by Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, so we can let families know as soon as possible. A new French immersion teacher will be assigned to the Grade 4/5 class in Room 208, as Bowmore was informed yesterday that we would be gaining a teacher who had been declared surplus from another school. In the English division, we have been given permission to hire a teacher for grade 7, room 309. We thank you for your understanding during this process.
SAFE ARRIVAL PROTOCOL: ALL PARENTS AND VISITORS MUST REPORT TO THE BOWMORE PS OFFICE
This year we are asking all parents and visitors to begin their visit at the Bowmore PS office. In the morning, if your child’s class has entered the building, please bring your child to the main office to sign them in. All late students will be escorted to the classroom by two children or a staff member. It is very important that we adhere to this routine. If you arrive early to pick up your child, please report to the office, and we will have your child brought down to the office. No adult should be entering other areas of the school building, and all student washrooms are out of bounds for adults. Staff washrooms are available for adults to use; please ask our office staff for their location. This way, we will keep track of all unidentified adults in the building and ensure the TDSB Safe Arrival Protocol is being followed.

ORANGE SHIRT DAY ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2023
September 30th has been designated as a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to commemorate the history and legacy of Residential Schools in Canada. In 1973, 6-year-old Phyllis Webstad was excited to wear her new orange shirt to her first day of school. Phyllis says of the shirt, "it was so bright and exciting—just like it felt to be going to school!" When she arrived at St. Joseph Mission Residential School, her shirt was taken and never given back. For Phyllis, "the color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn't matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying, and no one cared."
Established in 2013, Orange Shirt Day recognizes the legacy of the Residential Schools System for First Nations, Métis and Inuit families and communities. By wearing orange, we acknowledge the truths of Residential Schools in Canada, we honour Survivors, and we remember the thousands of children murdered by these schools, many of them buried in unmarked graves.
On Friday, September 29, 2023, we are asking our students to wear orange to participate in Orange Shirt Day.
