Dear Bowmore Families,
Our thoughts are with all of those impacted by the events in Israel and Gaza over the last week and unfolding in the Middle East. We are committed to continuing to provide inclusive, empathetic and supportive environments where all students and families feel safe through respectful interactions, while being sure to stop any form of hate that could impact students.
With that in mind, we wanted to provide some additional resources, while not exhaustive, that may be helpful at this tremendously challenging time:
· Jewish Community Support and Resources
· Arab Community Support and Resources
· Mental Health Culturally Responsive & Relevant Resource Lists
· School Mental Health Ontario How to help students after tragic events - Educators and
student support staff - School Mental Health Ontario (smho-smso.ca)
· Immediate Supports for Students
These are in addition to the previously shared tips created by TDSB Professional Support Services staff about speaking with children who are experiencing difficulties. Should additional resources be required, they will be shared on the TDSB website as they become available over time.
This week we opened our school and welcomed our parent community to curriculum night at Bowmore PS. And what a great turnout! We hope you had an opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and to get a glance of the upcoming academic year.
As the cold weather is upon us please ensure your child dresses appropriately for the weather, labeling your personal items. Our lost and found is located in the main foyer.
Thank you to families for bringing in your used batteries. We will continue to collect them until October 31st, 2023.

BOWMORE LIBRARY NEWS
Our library continues to be a busy place. This month, all the classes are learning about our featured author, Jacqueline Woodson Jacqueline Woodson. We are talking about books being mirrors and windows with the theme of identity. For the second half of the month, the older students will be exploring the virtual library to help them develop their research skills. We will also look at the importance of citing their work. On Monday, October 23rd, the library will be welcoming a local author, Eileen Samuel to explore her book, Gnarly's Journey: An Overview with the Grade 2s and 3s. Thank you for your support of our amazing Bowmore library. Continue to support your children's love of reading and talk to them about the books they are borrowing and returning. Happy Reading, Bowmore! Leah Jarvis leah.mcnabjarvis@tdsb.on.ca
