Dear Bowmore Families
Welcome Back from March Break! This week our school was filled with excitement as we had the opportunity to have the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee recipient Chris McKhool and Sultans of String Band perform a concert at Bowmore on Thurs. March 21, 2024. Intermediate Students had the opportunity to hear Celtic reels, Flamenco, Django-jazz, Arabic, Cuban and South Asia Rhythms.
On Friday March 22, 2024 we had our World Water Day Assembly with our primary classes. Our classes had the opportunity to learn about the importance of freshwater and the essential role that water plays in our daily lives and the need to protect and preserve this precious resource. Students created water day art and decorated the walls in the gym and performed two songs along with the presentation.

Launch of Parent’s Guide to Ontario’s Education System
The Ministry of Education is pleased to inform you that the Parent’s Guide to Ontario’s Education System was launched today.
This new resource will provide parents with helpful information that supports them to have a stronger role and actively participate in their children’s education. The guide covers several subjects, such as knowing how their child is doing in school, learning about suspension and expulsion processes, attending a school council meeting or parent involvement committee meeting, and knowing about specialized supports to help all children succeed.
This initiative is part of the government’s recent efforts to increase transparency and accountability in our school system.
The full guide can be found at www.Ontario.ca/educationguide.
The attached promotional flyers available in 10 different languages (English, French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Punjabi, Tagalog, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi) include a QR code that links to the full guide.
This flyer was also shared with communications contacts in school boards to help promote the guide to parents. This will also be shared with Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) chairs/co-chairs.
In addition, the Ministry of Education will be posting content on our social media channels starting this week, highlighting this new resource. Please consider reposting or retweeting our content on your channels if appropriate and timely.

Upcoming dental screening - April 25th 2024 - May 9th 2024.
To identify children with oral health problems, a screening program is offered by Toronto Public Health (TPH) to students in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Health requirements for mandatory health programs.
The screening is an assessment by an oral health staff member using a separate sterilized mouth mirror for each child. The oral health staff member will assess the need for topical fluoride, scaling, sealant and any other obvious dental needs.
As a follow up to the screening, only parents whose children were screened will be notified and a note to that effect will be sent home with their child for your information and action. You may also receive a phone call from TPH dental staff to assist you in accessing care.
Please be advised that this screening assessment does not replace the dental examination done by a dentist. The screening date for your child/ren's school has been scheduled for: April 25th-May 9th 2024.
If you do not wish your child/ren to be screened, please inform the school staff and the classroom teacher.
For additional information, please visit us at http://www.toronto.ca/health/dental/children_youth.htm or contact the oral health staff member on the phone number/email listed above. Please note that all personal health information (PHI) collected during the screening process will be protected under the provincial Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
