Dear Bowmore Families,

We hope the warm weather arrives soon, as many fun activities are planned for the spring months. Track and field, softball, badminton, and swimming are just a few of the activities that our students are or will be involved in in the next few weeks. Remember that tomorrow, Monday, April 8, is PA Day, so there is no school. Our staff will be working on our school improvement plan and a number of other professional development activities. Remember that tomorrow we will observe the solar eclipse between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the peak occurring at approximately 3:20 p.m. and that if you look at the sun, you may not feel any discomfort, but that doesn’t mean the Sun’s radiation cannot cause damage to the eyes.

We wanted to wish our Muslim families a blessed Eid Mubarak from the evening of Tuesday, Apr. 9, to Wednesday, Apr. 10, 2024, when they will be celebrating the end of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr.

Bowmore Carnival is back: Thursday, September 26, 2024

Save the date and, even better, Volunteer!

Carnival is a highlight of the year, bringing together our community for an afternoon of fun-filled activities, games, food, and entertainment.  It is also a core fundraiser for the Parent Council supporting various supplemental activities and resources ranging from STEM to the arts, enriching the student experience at Bowmore.

We are trying to do as much of the upfront planning and organizing before the end of this school year. And, to make this event a success, we need volunteers like you. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to lead specific stations:

Library Updates

Volunteers Needed: If you are able to spare an hour or two, the library always needs some maintenance. Please email leah.mcnabjarvis@tdsb.on.ca if you are able to help out!

Overdue/Lost/Damaged Books:  We have hundreds of books that are overdue, lost or come in damaged. Please make a conscientious effort to help your child care for their books and to return them promptly. They can return books anytime. They don't have to wait for their library day. There are no Late fees or fees for lost books, but a replacement book or a gift card to a local bookstore is always appreciated and would help replace lost or damaged items. You can email Ms. Jarvis, leah.mcnabjarvis@tdsb.on.ca if you have any questions or concerns about lost or missing books.

Used Book Sale: We will hold our annual Used Book Sale from  June 11-14. If you have any used books in good to excellent condition that your child/ren are done with, consider donating them to this sale. Books are accepted at the office or in the library. Funds raised will be used to buy more bean bag chairs, chess tables, books etc.

Activities in the Library: Attached are some photos of other activities happening in the library! Forest of Reading (every leaf represents a book read), Milk bag making (helping to make mattresses to donate), and Dash Robots (great leadership opportunities and learning to code) and our bookmark design winners!

Thank you for your continued support, Leah Jarvis

Happy Reading, everyone!
