Dear Families,
Another exciting week at Bowmore has ended; hopefully, warmer weather will arrive in the final days of April.
The TDSB requires Lockdowns and Fire Drills to be reviewed and practiced annually to ensure that students know what to do in the case of a real emergency. Our school has a Fire Safety Plan that has been reviewed and approved by Toronto Fire Services. Part of the plan includes regular Fire Drills conducted six times a year (generally 3 in the fall and 3 in the spring). Lockdown drills are practised twice a year. We will inform the families soon about the remaining three fire drills and one lockdown.
For our Jewish families, Passover begins on Monday, 22 April 2024, and we wish them a Chag Sameach and Pesach. Passover commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt. It ends on the evening of Apr. 30, 2024.
Dental Screening
Toronto Public Health (TPH) offers students a screening program to identify children with oral health problems in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Health requirements for mandatory health programs.
The screening is an assessment by an oral health staff member using a separate sterilized mouth mirror for each child. The oral health staff member will assess the need for topical fluoride, scaling, sealant and any other obvious dental needs.
As a follow-up to the screening, only parents whose children were screened will be notified, and a note to that effect will be sent home with their child for your information and action. You may also receive a phone call from TPH dental staff to assist you in accessing care.
Please be advised that this screening assessment does not replace the dental examination done by a dentist. Bowmore Rd has been scheduled for April 25 - May 9, 2024: If you do not wish your child/ren to be screened, please inform the school staff and the classroom teacher.
For additional information, please visit us at http://www.toronto.ca/health/dental/children_youth.htm. Please note that all personal health information (PHI) collected during the screening process will be protected under the provincial Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
Track and Field News
Track and Field: Track and Field tryouts have begun. This is for all Bowmore students in grades 4 to 8 only. We are sorry for the confusion on the EMA form. EMA says all grades, it means any grade from 4-8. We will be continuing tryouts next week. If your child has signed EMA and is interested in Long-distance runs and throwing events, tryouts are on Monday and Wednesday. If your child is interested in short distances and relays, tryouts are Tuesday and Thursday. Please note if rain is falling from the sky, practice is CANCELED.

Thank you to the Bowmore’s Health and Humanity students for their leadership in our school community and their initiative to organize a successful clothing drive. Thank you, families, for supporting us with your donations, which will be given to New Circles Community Services and Michael Garron Hospital.

Head Lice (Pediculosis)
All TDSB schools follow a uniform approach to addressing head lice (pediculosis) issues.
