Dear Bowmore Families and Guardians,

As the month of April comes to an end, classrooms took the opportunity to explore Mother Nature for Earth Day on April 22, 2024. This year’s theme was Planet vs Plastic. This annual global event was celebrated by the Junior division with a wide variety of earthy activities. The various stations included: making Mother Earth posters, writing poetry, planting seeds, playing environmental awareness games, creating art outside or participating in a Bowmore tree tour.

It was an opportunity to connect and appreciate our natural surroundings as well as for the students to mingle with the awesome Bowmore students they might not normally have a chance to be with.  Many students took on leadership roles to lead games and the “Tree Huggers” worked hard to prepare posters and “tree cookies” to help educate others about the diversity of trees at Bowmore.

It was a sunny, lovely afternoon, playing and learning, appreciating our Mother Earth together.

'' I think everyone enjoyed it and I think it was cool that it was all outside and that we met a lot of new kids'' — Leah Room 205

Another student-led initiative to help repurpose clothing was the clothing drive organized by the Health and Humanity group. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Health and Humanity clothing drive! all your donations will be used and appreciated by a person in need! We collected over 70 bags of clothing for New Circles/GLOW & Michael Garron Hospital!!! Thank you so much!!!

Thank you for this opportunity!

Lastly, as the warmer weather approaches, we kindly remind everyone to wear the appropriate clothing to enjoy the outdoors.  We have also been noticing that students are bringing water guns to school. To ensure everyone’s safety, no student should be bringing a gun replica to school.

Dental Screening

Toronto Public Health (TPH) offers students a screening program to identify children with oral health problems in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Health requirements for mandatory health programs.

The screening is an assessment by an oral health staff member using a separate sterilized mouth mirror for each child. The oral health staff member will assess the need for topical fluoride, scaling, sealant and any other obvious dental needs.

As a follow-up to the screening, only parents whose children were screened will be notified, and a note to that effect will be sent home with their child for your information and action. You may also receive a phone call from TPH dental staff to assist you in accessing care.

Please be advised that this screening assessment does not replace the dental examination done by a dentist. Bowmore Rd has been scheduled for April 25 - May 9, 2024: If you do not wish your child/ren to be screened, please inform the school staff and the classroom teacher.

Head Lice (Pediculosis)

All TDSB schools follow a uniform approach to addressing head lice (pediculosis) issues.

Please access a helpful lice fact sheet from Toronto Public Health using the following link.
