Days of Significance: In Canada, November 11 is officially called Remembrance Day, but it is also known as Armistice Day and Poppy Day. Remembrance Day commemorates the sacrifices of people in all armed conflicts. Red poppies symbolise the memory of those who passed and white poppies campaigns for non-military interventions in conflict situations. On November 11, special services are organized which include the playing of "The Last Post" and two minutes of silence at 11:00 (or 11am). After the service, wreaths are laid at local war memorials.
Please remember when you go to the assemblies today, you must enter the gym in a quiet and serious manner to demonstrate our respect for this important day. Please send all poppy money to the office by the end of the day. Thank you to all staff and students who helped to put our two Remembrance Day assemblies together.
Have a wonderful day of learning!
