Hello Bowmore!
Office - Welcome Back! We hope you had a restful winter break. Let’s ensure that we have a safe and fun start to the new year at Bowmore.
Office - Days of Significance: There were many days of significance that were celebrated over the winter break.
Gantan-sai is the annual New Year festival of the Shinto religion, which is celebrated every January 1st. Practitioners pray for inner renewal, prosperity, and health, as well as visiting shrines and visiting friends and family.
In the Gregorian calendar, New Year's Day is the first day of the calendar year, meaning January 1st. Most solar calendars begin the year regularly at or near the northern winter solstice, while cultures and religions that observe a lunar calendar celebrate their Lunar New Year at a later date.
Twelfth Night is a Christian festival on the last night of the Twelve Days of Christmas, marking the coming of the Epiphany. It was celebrated on January 5th, 2023.
On Saturday, January 6th, in Eastern Christian tradition, Epiphany is a Christian feast day commemorating the visit of the Magi, the baptism of Jesus, and the wedding at Cana.
Orthodox Christmas day occurs every January 7 because the Orthodox Church still chooses to celebrate the birth of Jesus as per the Julian calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar.
In the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches, the Baptism of Jesus Christ is celebrated as an integral part of the celebration on January 7th, the Great Feast of the Theophany.
