SAC - Parent Council

SAC - School Advisory Council

There are many ways to get involved in your school and we wanted to highlight some of the events and activities organized by the School Advisory Council (SAC) and the volunteers. The following is a snapshot of some of the opportunities to meet other parents, staff and get to know your child’s peers. SAC events raise money to help fund many of the activities, technology and equipment for the school that makes your child’s experience at Cedarvale even more exceptional.

School Advisory Committee (SAC) meetings:

Monthly SAC meetings allow parents to hear first-hand what is happening in the school, plan for upcoming initiatives and bring ideas forward. The Principal gives the monthly Principal’s Report about classroom activities; facility updates and new initiatives. The SAC committee gives updates on SAC related activities and brings forward proposals/requests for expenditures. This is a good way to have input into your school community.

If you are interested in being a SAC committee member (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary or Treasurer), self-nomination forms are available in the office. Elections of the SAC committee will take place at the first September SAC meeting.

Class parents:
A parent for each class volunteers to be “class parent” and is traditionally called upon by either classroom teachers or SAC sub-committees to recruit volunteers for events and activities by contacting parents from the class lists. Class parents are requested to attend SAC meetings throughout the year. If you are interested, please email cedarvalesac@gmail.com

Marketplace:

Our Fall Virtual Marketplace will be up and running soon - please check back for details on this fun and exciting way to get a jump on holiday shopping while supporting our school!

Spring Fair:
Our legendary Spring Fair takes the first Thursday in June and is a fun event for Cedarvale families and the community. There are rides, games, activities, dj, silent auction and lots of great food. Joining the Spring Fair committee is a great way to meet other parents and be involved in our biggest fundraising event.

Eco Schools:
Our EcoSchools Committee leads the school’s environmental initiatives resulting in Cedarvale being awarded a Platinum Eco Schools certification for multiple-years consecutively-a major accomplishment! The EcoSchools Committee, made up of students, parents and teachers, holds a variety of events throughout the year including a movie night, clothing drive and a toy and book sale.

Bingo Nights:
Come with your children and enjoy a family night of bingo, pizza, popcorn, “bingo night” cookies and socializing. There are many prizes to be won at this popular school community event!

How to get involved: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
Volunteers are always welcome and needed to help with any of the above activities such as helping to distribute Subway/pizza lunches, set up a Bingo Night, Marketplace, Spring Fair, etc. There are several vacancies this year on many committees and the school needs your help! Make a difference and get involved what makes Cedarvale so great!

Staying in the Loop:

The Principal sends out a weekly "Cedarvale Sunshine" school newsletter, as well as a variety of e-mail blasts to keep you up-to-date about what’s happening in the school, upcoming dates and important information. Please take the time to read these valuable updates. For more information, please contact the SAC committee at cedarvalesac@gmail.com.  You will also get SAC updates when you sign-up to receive them. Please email SAC for information on how to register your email to receive the updates from SAC.

All the best for an exciting year at Cedarvale,
Cedarvale SAC Committee
