Choir Sings for the Raptors

UPDATE: Watch the performance here!

On Monday, December 8, the Davisville Grade 5 & 6 choir was at the Air Canada Centre to sing the national anthems before the Toronto Raptors game!  The choir, led by the extraordinary Ms. Konjhodzic, sang both The Star Spangled Banner and O Canada in front of a sellout crowd. We are very proud of the way they represented Davisville!

Dear Parent, About THAT Child

The following is a blog entry from a school administrator in Calgary which was posted in November. It is especially pertinent at this time, as report cards go home and families meet with classroom staff to discuss their child's progress. Please follow the link to read the whole post, it is worth your time.

Dear Parent:

I know. You’re worried. Every day, your child comes home with a story about THAT kid. The one who is always hitting shoving pinching scratching maybe even biting other children. The one who always has to hold my hand in the hallway. The one who has a special spot at the carpet, and sometimes sits on a chair rather than the floor. The one who had to leave the block centre because blocks are not for throwing. The one who climbed over the playground fence right exactly as I was telling her to stop. The one who poured his neighbour’s milk onto the floor in a fit of anger. On purpose. While I was watching.  And then, when I asked him to clean it up, emptied the ENTIRE paper towel dispenser. On purpose. While I was watching. The one who dropped the REAL ACTUAL F-word in gym class.

You’re worried that THAT child is detracting from your child’s learning experience.

CDI Integra Series Workshops

The Child Development Institute is offering a series of workshops this winter surrounding learning disabilities. The overarching goal of the workshops is to increase knowledge, empathy and understanding of learning disabilities (LDs) and the social, emotional, and behavioural impact on children and adolescents. Our Community Education & Engagement program aims to prevent mental problems in this population by reaching out to caregivers and professionals who interact with them.

Who: Workshops are primarily designed for parents/ caregivers of children with LDs. Family and community members, educators, counsellors and any other interested adults are welcome. * We regret that we are unable to provide childcare so unless workshops are specifically for children/youth, we ask that they do not attend.
