View From the Hill - Issue 10 - Week of November 6, 2022

Sunday, November 06, 2022 04:11 PM

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

We would like to begin by recognizing how challenging Friday was and what the uncertainty of this coming week means for students and families. Please know that our teachers and staff will do their upmost this week to support student learning. Students are requested to check their email regularly for communication from the school and their teachers.

Given the uncertainty of the CUPE work action this week, our school will begin the shift to remote learning. Students who require technology to support their learning are asked to complete this Technology Request Form. This form will be monitored and students who require such technology will be contacted via email and requested to drop by the school to borrow a device on Monday.

On Monday, our teachers will provide asynchronous learning to all students.

  • Students will be provided with work either through the teacher’s digital classroom or via email.
  • If teachers have not already done so, all teachers will share their digital access platform codes with all students by the end of the work day.

On Tuesday, our teachers will begin synchronous live remote learning in all classes.

  • Links to Zoom or Google Meet classrooms will be provided to all students through the classes’ digital platform (i.e. Brightspace or Google Classroom)
  • Students will be expected to join their teacher and classmates via Zoom or Google Meet
  • Attendance will be taken for each class
  • If for any reason a student cannot attend classes remotely:
    • please infrm the classroom teacher of the absence
    • Please nte that our secretaries are members of CUPE which will make it difficult to monitor our phone lines and attendance reporting email account. To help us when reporting a student absence, see a separate email that will be sent to all parents and guardians at 4:15 pm today.

At this time, our understanding is that live synchronous remote learning will continue for the duration of the CUPE work action. Again, we realize that this disruption will be challenging and we would like to reiterate that our teachers and staff will do our best to ensure that students continue to learn and are supported. Our newsletter will be paused and all communication will be emailed and posted on our Forest Hill Collegiate website.
