Harbord C. I. registration information and requirements for students interested to attend Harbord in grades 9 through 12.

The Harbord grade 9 registration information night / Harbord open house is on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  This is an in-person event.  Students and parents/legal guardians are welcomed to attend.

General student registration information for Harbord C. I. to parents and legal guardians.  Each registration request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and students are accepted to attend Harbord C. I. when “all” documentation requirements are met.  

 

The Toronto District School Board requires schools to review documents as listed below. By discretion of the school Principal, Vice-Principal, or Guidance Counsellor, additional documentation may be requested on a case-by-case basis. Registration requests may be delayed if documents are incomplete or not legible.

For complete registration information, please have all applicable supporting documents ready, including your child's grade 8 report card with the 9-digit OEN on it to begin the registration process on the 2023-2024 TDSB registration portal, read all information carefully, and submit all applicable information and documents.  You may wish to black out or redact any confidential information from your documents that may not be needed.  For the types of accepted documents, please see each category below.

*** IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION and supporting documentation requirements ***

 

Please see below, [A] through [F], for Registration Information that may be applicable to your family’s circumstance.

 

[A] Grade 8 students residing with their parent/legal guardian in the Harbord catchment AND attending a TDSB (Toronto District School Board) school do not need to make a registration appointment at Harbord CI. You may contact your child's teacher, vice-principal or principal at your child's grade 8 school to assist you with the grade 9 registration process, registration information and important dates. *** Current French Immersion students in grade 8 at King Edward, Winchester, and Parkdale are in the French Immersion pathway to the grade 9 French Immersion program at Harbord C. I. ***

 

[B] Grade 8 students and parents/legal guardians living in the Harbord catchment, and attending a non-TDSB school, such as the Toronto Catholic School Board, or a private school, please attend the in-person open house on Wednesday, December 7th, 7pm-9pm.  You may bring any questions you may have to the open house.  

After you have received your child's grade 8 report card, please make sure that the full nine digit OEN-Ontario Education Number is clearly printed on the report card, to begin the registration process on the TDSB registration webpage.  You will need to submit a copy of the grade 8 report card with all other applicable supporting documents, including two different type items to verify the current home address, the student's status in Canada, etc.; please review the complete list of accepted documents below.

The registration webpage portal is control by the central TDSB office and the registration portal for new enrollments to the 2023-2024 school year will open in January 2023 to accept new registration applications and applicable supporting documents.  Please also note that incomplete application information and/or incomplete supporting documents may delay the review process.  https://www.tdsb.on.ca/Find-your/School/Registration

 

[C] Secondary school students currently attending a TDSB school that share the Harbord catchment, such as CTA, CTS, please begin your transfer request by contacting your vice-principal at CTA or CTS.

ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS REQUIREMENT for new registration requests to Harbord C. I.

Please read all information carefully as some requirements have changed or revised.  You may redact or black out any confidential information that is not needed to process the registration request.  You may wish to refer to the TDSB Admission Eligibility Requirements PR 518 for complete information.  (www.tdsb.on.ca/About-Us/Detail/docId/1635)

1. Verification of Primary Home Address – Any TWO (2) recently dated items, from two (2) different bullet points as list below, issued to you within the current/past three (3) months.  Note that both home address documents need to show the names of the parent/legal guardian and primary home address, where the student and parent(s)/legal guardian are currently residing.  To verify if your primary home address is in the Harbord catchment area, please see this link:  Find Your School - By Address 

All documents need to be from the original issuing party and NOT altered but you may redact or black out any confidential information that is not needed to process the registration request. Please note that a Driver’s Licence is NOT accepted to verify the home address. 

  • For proof of address choose any two* of:
    • Utility bill (e.g. hydro, gas, water)
    • Cable TV, internet, home phone bill
    • Insurance policy (home, tenant, auto or life)
    • Mortgage statement
    • Rental or lease agreement or deed
    • Current purchase and sale agreement
    • Property tax bill or notice of tax assessment
    • Original correspondence from a government agency or legal clinic may be accepted as a second proof of address document

 2. Verification of Student Legal Names, Age, Date of Birth and Canadian Citizenship or Eligible Immigration Status - ONE (1) item. 

**Students who do not hold Canadian citizenship or PR status or Refugee status, please also provide the student's home country passport photo page and arrival date stamp page and/or Government of Canada issued document, if applicable.**

  • Birth Certificate - Long Form Birth Certificate, with names of parents or Birth Certificate Card
  • Passport photo page
  • Citizenship Card / Certificate
  • Permanent Resident Card or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (PR)
  • Baptismal Certificate
  • Refugee Claimant Document
  • Foreign Passport (photo page, visa page and entry date to Canada page) – student / child of parent with Canada Immigration issued Work Permit VISA, if applicable.

3. Most recent grade 8 report card for new grade 9 students - or - current academic records issued from the student's current secondary school, Secondary School Credit Counselling Summary, Transcript and final/interim Report Card(s), listing all final/interim grades and courses earned to date in the current school year, as applicable.  

  • Please make sure that the full nine digit OEN-Ontario Education Number is clearly printed on your child's grade 8 report card, or secondary school credit counselling summary and transcript.  Academic records in a foreign language should be submitted along with an official translation fully in English, if applicable.

4. Special Education information, I.E.P. - Individual Education Plan and other academic related reports/documentation, if applicable.

5. Ontario Health Card or other health insurance coverage for the student.

6. Ontario Long Form Birth Certificate, with names of the birth parents.  Guardianship or Ontario Custody Court Order Documentation, if applicable.  If non-applicable, both parents/legal guardians are assumed to have joint custody of the student (age under 18 years old).

7. Ontario Court Order outlining Legal Guardianship, transferring custody, etc., as required and to be reviewed by the Legal Dept at the Toronto District School Board.  When the student does not live with a parent but lives with a legal guardian in the Harbord catchment, an Ontario Court Order should be provided to Harbord C. I. that outlines that the parents are transferring custody from parents to an adult resident within Ontario and stipulates that the guardian assumes full care and well-being of the student and that the student is residing with the legal guardian throughout the custody period.  This document would be provided to Harbord C. I. and then reviewed by TDSB Legal Services before we register the student.  Anyone who assumes Legal Guardianship must reside in the jurisdiction of TDSB and within the Harbord C. I. catchment area.

8. Canada Immigration issued Work Permit VISA to parent, Canada Immigration issued Student Permit VISA to accompanying child and Passports (photo page, visa page and entry date to Canada page) of parent/legal guardian and child, if applicable.

9. English and Math Assessment will be arranged after registration to the school.  For newcomers to Ontario or students returning after an extended period outside of Ontario, an English and Math assessment appointment will be arranged with the West End Reception Centre.  The West End Reception Centre is located at 777 Bloor Street West, 4th floor, Toronto, ON (south side opposite Christie subway station), Tel: 416-393-0542 https://www.tdsb.on.ca/New-to-Canada/Students/Registration-Reception-Centres.

Information for students and families living outside of the school catchment.  

Unfortunately, the Out-of-Area Admissions status for Harbord C. I. 2023-2024 is “CLOSED” for all programs.  

If interested, there are two excellent neighbouring schools that may be available for new registration requests.  They are Central Technical School (Tel: 416-393-0060) and Central Toronto Academy (Tel: 416-393-0030).  Please reach out to those schools directly.
