This year, J.B. Tyrrell has teams in the following sports:  

September-October

Cross Country: Grade 7 and 8 students can participate in cross country, and there is no tryout involved, so everyone can participate. (Led by: Mme. Hafner, Ms. Griffin and Mr. Lesperance)


Soccer: Grade 7 and 8 students can participate in soccer. In order to participate, you have to attend tryouts for a spot on the team. Congratulations to our girls' team - Finalists for the 2023-2024 season! (Led by Mr. Romas, Ms. Griffin and Mme Wong)


November- December

Boys’ Volleyball: Students from grade 7 and 8 can join the team. Congratulations to our boys' team - Champions for the 2023-2024 season. (Led by Mme. Hafner)

Girls' Basketball: This team is open to girls in grade 7 and 8. (Led by Mr. Romas)

Basketball Intramurals: Sign up and you will be put on a team to enjoy some great basketball games at lunch. (Led by Mr. Romas)


January-February

Girls’ Volleyball: Grade 7 and 8 girls are playing on this team, and their season consists of mini-tournaments. (Led by Ms. Kotwal and Mr. Lesperance)

Boys Basketball: The grade 7 and 8 boys are playing on this team. They visit a number of other schools and also attend games at J.B. Tyrrell. (Led by Mr. Romas)

Grade 7 & 8 Volleyball Intramurals: Students will play on teams with others in the same grade. There will be regular season games and eventually playoffs in order to decide a championship team. (Led by Ms. Hafner and Mr. Lesperance)

Grade 7 & 8 Badminton Intramurals: All games will be played as doubles. Grade 7s will play on at lunch. Grade 8 doubles competition will also occur at lunch. (Led by Mme. Wong and Mme. Hafner)


March-April

Co-Ed Badminton: Students of all grades and genders can join this team, this team runs for about a month.  (Coached by Mme. Hafner)

All-Gendered Volleyball: This is a volleyball team open to all genders. This year, we will have a grade 8 all-gendered volleyball team (coached by Mr. Lesperance and Ms. Hafner). 


May-June

Slo-Pitch: This team is for all genders and all grades, and the team runs for about a month. This is like softball, but with slightly varied rules. (Led by Mr. Romas and Mr. Lesperance)

Ultimate Frisbee: Students in grades 7 and 8 will work together to pass a disk in this non-contact self-refereed sport. (Led by: Ms. Griffin and Ms. Kotwal)

Track and Field: Students from all grades and genders will have a chance to compete in track in field. There are many events, such as relay, long distance running, sprinting, running long jump, triple jump, javelin, shot put and hurdles. In 2024, the following events will be offered: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, RLJ, shot put, javelin, 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay. (Led by Ms. Griffin, Mme. Hafner and Mr. Lesperance)
