We strive to ensure that our students are learning, thinking and engaged.
First Day Procedures
The first day of school is an exciting time as students prepare for the start of school or a return to school after a summer break.
On the first day of school our students are to meet their teacher on the paved play area. Teachers will be out on the paved play area on the east side of the school beginning at 8:30 a.m. Kindergarten teachers will be at the north end (closest to Mimico Ave), Grade 8 teachers at the south end (closest to Central Ave) and other teachers in numerical order from north to south. Our French Immersion Kindergarten teachers will be meet students in the fenced area on George St. at the north end of the school. Each teacher will have a clipboard with their name and grade level. If you are looking for a specific teacher, please do not to hesitate to ask any of our staff.
All students will receive an email on Friday, August 30 indicating their class for the 2019 - 2020 school year. Class placements are always subject to re-organization due to enrollment levels. If for some reason, you do not receive and email, please contact one of our staff members on the first day of school and they will be able to assist with the class placement.
Students new to the school, who have not registered, should come directly to the office to discuss next steps. Students who live in the catchment area and have attended Grade 5 in one of the primary schools in the neighbourhood (i.e., David Hornell, George R. Gauld and Sir Adam Beck) have already had their records transferred to John English.
