John English offers Early French Immersion, Junior Extended French and Core French programs. These programs are designed for students who do not speak French at home.

Core French
Core French is offered to students in the regular English program from Grade 4 to Grade 8 for 40 minutes a day as part of their basic program. Students need one credit in French As a Second Language in Grade 9 for their secondary school diploma. Core French continues to be offered at secondary school from Grade 9 to Grade 12.

Early French Immersion
The Early Immersion program begins in Senior Kindergarten, and offers 100% French instruction in the classroom until the end of Grade 3. English instruction is gradually introduced in Grade 4 and it becomes a half-day program from Grades 6 to 8.
Applications for Early French Immersion are due in early December. Information is available on the TDSB website as of November 1st. The application process is open in November. PARS Application

Junior Extended French
The Junior Extended French program begins at the Grade 4 level. Students in this program spend 50% of their day in French instruction from Grades 4-8. The subjects taught in French are French Language Arts, Social Studies, and The Arts. The subjects taught in English are English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science. Currently, the closest Extended French program is at Second Street Junior Middle School.
