Dear Manhattan Park Families,
It is hard to believe that we are almost in November of the 2025-2026 school year. Today, our Kindergarten and Grade 1/2 class had the opportunity to learn about fire safety from Firefighter Sherri. Students in Grade 3 also completed their Universal Screening today. Thank you, Ms. Kapilan and Mr. Chen, for scheduling and organizing. Congratulations to all our Cross Country Runners who represented Manhattan Park well at the Thompson Park Meets. Bravo to our finalists, Hannah, Pavlos, and Avery! Thank you, Ms. Skrivanos, for organizing, and all our parent volunteers for driving students and supporting the athletes.
This Friday, October 24, the TDSB will be celebrating a historic moment as the Toronto Blue Jays are heading to the World Series for the first time in 32 years! To show our support, our school will be joining the festivities by hosting a Blue Jays Spirit Day. We encourage all students and staff to wear Blue Jays gear or blue clothing on Friday. Let’s fill our school with Jays pride ahead of Game 1!
Thank you, Parent Council, for gifting each student with a pumpkin! The students had a lot of fun decorating them. The October 29th Sip 'n Social promises to be a fun event for all. Funds raised by the Council have supported the purchase of Social Studies resources for teachers to help enhance the program for students. Thank you for supporting our learners.
November is Indigenous Education Month at the Toronto District School Board. Throughout the month, students, staff, and community members deepen knowledge, learn from our shared histories, and strengthen relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples. This month emphasizes creating opportunities to learn from Indigenous perspectives on treaties, leadership, achievements, resurgence, futurities, and creativity. The TDSB is committed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action (TRC) and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. At Manhattan Park, we are learning about the 7 Sacred (or Grandfather) Teachings, which value love, respect, honesty, courage, wisdom, humility, and truth. Each teaching is represented by a specific animal. These learnings can strengthen the relationship between Non-Indigenous and Indigenous people and help everyone be treated equitably.
Hindu Heritage Month (HHM) is recognized and celebrated at the TDSB during November. It is an occasion to recognize and celebrate the rich tapestry of traditions, teachings, and values that are integral to Hindu dharma and practiced by millions around the world today. November is an opportunity to celebrate the Hindu way of life, examine its impact and contributions to the world culture, and recognize values that promote compassion, peace, and inclusion.
On Tuesday, November 11, Manhattan Park will have a Remembrance Day Ceremony at 10:15 a.m. You are welcome to join. Thank you, Ms. Wojtowicz, for organizing this special ceremony and all the staff/students who will be contributing.
A friendly reminder to all parents/guardians that when visiting the school, make the first stop at the front office. If you must proceed further into the building, for safety reasons, please write in the Sign-In sheet. Thank you!
Stronger Together,
Ms. Lin
