Graduation Requirements

It is the student's responsibility to ensure that diploma requirements are satisfied. Guidance counselors are available for consultation.

18 Compulsory Credits

  • 4 English credits (1 credit per grade)
  • 1 French credit
  • 3 Math credits (1 credit in credit in grade 11 or 12)
  • 2 Science credits
  • 1 Canadian history credit
  • 1 Canadian geography credit
  • 1 credit in the arts
  • 1 health and physical education credit
  • 1/2 credit in civics
  • 1/2 credit in career studies

PLUS:

  • 1 additional credit in English, or French as a second language, or a Native language, or a classical or an international language, or social sciences and the humanities, or Canadian and world studies, or guidance and career education, or cooperative education**
  • 1 additional credit in health and physical education, or the arts, or business studies, or French as a second language, or cooperative education 
  • 1 additional credit in science (grade 11 or 12) or technological education or French as a second language, or cooperative education 

  • 12 Optional Credits (Any other courses offered at Mowat C.I.) 

40 Hours of Community Involvement

Students require a minimum of forty hours of community involvement to develop awareness of community and civic responsibility. Your guidance counsellor from the Guidance Office can provide a list of possible types of volunteer work that would qualify for the forty hour requirement.

Grade 10 Literacy Test

A standardized literacy will given to all grade 10 students and must be passed in order to receive a diploma. The test is taken at the beginning of the school year.
