At Silverthorn Collegiate Institute, the Special Education Department is dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all students, aligning with the principles outlined by the Ontario Ministry of Education. It is our goal to provide equitable access to education and support for every student so they can reach their full potential.

GLE1O – Learning Strategies 1

Skills for Success in Secondary School, Grade 9, Open

In grades 9 and 10, the Learning Strategies course provides students with tools to manage their education and become independent, self-advocating learners. By focusing on the development and hands-on application of academic and life skills—including literacy, numeracy, organization, and teamwork—students can see immediate improvements in their school achievement. This course helps to builds student confidence and motivation, ensuring they are well-prepared and eager to pursue various opportunities throughout their high school career and future endeavors.

Students will master their potential by conducting self-assessments, investigations, and refining their literacy, numeracy, and research skills. They will investigate post-secondary trends and exit the course with a plan to achieve their long-term career and learning goals.
