Technological Education

Communication Technology is a class where we take a multimedia approach to learning. We learn about photo and video editing, script and storyboard writing, advertising, short films, and video shooting. Students learn modern systems for media creation that is fun and leads to exciting job opportunities in the future. 

Courses: TEJ2O, TEJ3M, TEJ4M

This hands-on program is about building, repairing, and troubleshooting technology from the ground up, blending electrical and mechanical engineering. Students begin by learning basic circuits, soldering, and wiring (TEJ2O) in projects like building a miniature smart home. They advance to integrating motors and gears to build working robots and autonomous vehicles (TEJ3M), emphasizing how to solve problems and formally learn to use AI tools as a troubleshooting assistant. The final TEJ4M course is a personalized design studio where students choose challenging projects, from building a server network to making AI-enabled toy cars or working on the competitive FIRST Robotics team robot.

The Construction Technology program provides comprehensive, hands-on training in carpentry and general construction within a well-equipped woodshop facility. The Grade 10 course focuses on mastering power tool operation (such as the surface planer, mitre saw, and drill press), precise measurement, and safety protocols, applied through small projects like speaker boxes and integrated LED nightlights (including basic soldering). In the Grade 11 and 12 courses, students advance to practical skills in rough carpentry (like framing walls and entire rooms) and finish carpentry, including drywalling, trim work, and cabinet installation. They also gain exposure to integrated trades like electrical and plumbing. The senior classes culminate in complex, inquiry-based group projects designed by the students, preparing them for construction trades or related engineering fields.

Technological Design is a class where we learn to bridge technology with design thinking. Students learn 3D Modelling, 3D printing, Electrical systems, Logo Design, and how to think about engineering and architecture as a means of solving problems in a modern world.  

The Technological Skills (TAS) course provides a hands-on introduction to technical trades and engineering design through rotating units. Students master the design process and tool safety while exploring various sectors. The Design Tech unit focuses on 3D Modelling, 3D Printing, and Electrical Systems, where students design products like custom game controllers. The Transportation Tech unit applies engineering principles through projects such as building a mousetrap car. The course also includes Construction Tech, where students master foundational trade skills, including the safe use of power tools and basic carpentry, ensuring all students are prepared for specialized pathways in senior technology courses.

The Transportation Technology sequence is an intensely hands-on program centered on practical vehicle maintenance and repair. The Grade 10 course (TTJ2O) builds foundational skills by focusing on small engines and bicycle repair while teaching the underlying principles of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. In the Grade 11 and 12 courses (TTA3C/4C), students work in specialized, rotating stations covering essential automotive areas like brakes, engines, electrical systems, tires, and welding. The program offers invaluable real-world experience as students continuously learn from and work on a steady flow of vehicles owned by teachers, students, and community members. This ensures they graduate with both the theoretical knowledge and practical competence needed for successful careers or post-secondary pathways in the automotive industry.
