Visual Arts

Silverthorn’s Visual Arts Department is a creative, welcoming environment for students interested in expressing themselves through painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and pottery. In Grade 9 the NAC10 course focuses on Indigenous studies and includes hands-on creation inspired by Indigenous worldviews. In the following grades, students build on their skills, deepen their ability to express themselves, and explore new mediums and techniques. In all courses, you will work with a variety of materials while learning about art history and developing strong creative and technical skills. You will also have opportunities to participate in field trips to the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Gardiner Museum, and Ripley’s Aquarium, The Well, as well as take part in guest artist visits. Students can also showcase their work and participate in our annual Movie Night, Arts Market and Arts Showcase.
