What is Construction Technology?
Construction Technology gives students an opportunity to learn the safe operation and use of hand tools and machines used in woodworking. They will complete many hands on projects, many of which they will get to keep.
What does a typical class look like?
Safety is paramount. The first week, students will learn about Personal Protective Equipment and how to properly use them. Typical classes start with a 10-15 min lesson or refresher on that days activity. Students then proceed to the shop to gain hands on experience using the tools and equipment. Students are constantly supervised during these hands on activities to ensure their safety.
What can parents/care givers expect their child to learn from this program?
This course introduces students to concepts and skills in construction technology, carpentry, and woodworking. Students will participate in hands-on activities designed to educate and explore commonly used tools, machines, materials. Students will develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues, and will begin to explore secondary and postsecondary pathways leading to careers in the field.
What supports are available to students?
Small class sizes with many qualified instructors , EAs and CYW's to make an enjoyable experience. The shops are well organized and equipped to complete a variety of woodworking projects.
What Production Based Tasks or Experiential Learning Opportunities do students have?
Past projects include Agincourt courtyard rejuvenation, partnership with CICS( making planter boxes) arbors, picnic tables, chairs, on site decks, sensory woodworking projects.
