Discovering Diamonds (GPS)

Time of year: All Year

Half Day Program

Students role play as a diamond mining company, looking to stake a claim in northern Ontario.  By visiting geocaches scattered throughout the area, students must choose site cards with the most garnet counts (diamond indicator minerals) and return to the claims office to register the claim for their company.  The company with the site(s) with the highest garnet count will be the most profitable. Using actual data, students debrief at the end of the day using the diamond mine location (created 2005) .
