Getting Ready For Your Visit

Checklist



One Month Before Your Visit:

  • Confirm your program request by emailing michelle.blackie@tdsb.on.ca 
  • Complete the Teacher Notes box to communicate in detail your goals for the field trip, any medical conditions, learning exceptionalities, program modifications, lunch options, and eco-school connections
  • Call Michelle at EFSC if you require a wheelchair accessible bus (905-794-2171).
  • Collect old markers for us to recycle in conjunction with Colour Cycle
One Week Before:
  • Obtain Student Excursion Report one week in advance of field trip date. (available from office staff on Trillium: Report Generator).
  • Organize students into groups or pairs. Pairing students before the trip will help prevent disagreements among students as well as expedite the program.
  • Collect student user fees to be deposited in school’s petty cash account. 
  • Discuss field trip goals with students. Create a web of themes, concepts and questions. 
  • Review expectations for behaviour, outdoor clothing, reusable water bottles, and waste-free lunches.  Please also remind them that EFSC is a scent-free environment.
  • Purchase food for cookout (If you have chosen this option).

The Big Day:
  • Bring Student Excursion Report (Trillium). (Bus Seating Plan is not required within GTA)
  • (optional) Bring Anchor charts with learning goals, concepts, themes and questions for EFSC staff to use during your program.
  • Count the students when you board the bus. Have a system for making a quick head count every so often throughout the day.
  • Make sure that any students, who have allergies or other medical needs, bring their medication. 
  • Bring a camera and cell phone if available for photos.
  • Make sure bus driver knows directions and schedule for the day.
  • Bring old markers to the Centre for us to recycle.
At EFSC:
  • Alert the staff to any learners that have learning exceptionalities.(ELL, HSP, IEP, ADHD etc. )
  • Discuss with the staff (at anytime) ways to meet the needs of your students!
  • Supervise students during lunch. 

After Your Visit:
  • Complete and return “How are we doing?” feedback form that will be sent to you. Your suggestions are integral to the development of new programs and success of subsequent visits.
