Mission Statement and Code of Conduct

Albion Heights Junior Middle School is a member of the Toronto District School Board. We believe in strong educational programming that is created through a partnership of schools, students, family, teachers and the community. We are committed in our goal to ensure that our learning environment is safe, nurturing, positive and respectful. We are committed in our pursuit of excellence for all our learners.

RIGHTS OF STUDENTS:
  • I have the right to be free from bullying, threats, racism, sexism, taunting, and physical aggression.
  • I have the right to be treated fairly and with respect.
  • I have the right to be myself and express my feelings in a positive way.
  • I have the right to learn in a positive class environment without interruption.
  • I have the right to know the consequences of my actions.
  • I have the right to celebrate my success and the success of others.

RIGHTS OF THE COMMUNITY:
  • We have the right to a safe school environment where all students and adults are respected and treated fairly.
  • We have the right to equitable treatment where all voices are heard.
  • We have the right to celebrate our differences through school-wide events that reflect our diversity.
  • We have the right to acknowledge positive behaviour through various school-wide and individual efforts.

ALBION HEIGHTS STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO:
  • Come to school daily, on time and prepared for each class
  • Follow school and class routines in the building, the schoolyard and on trips
  • Complete assignments by the required date
  • Show proper care and regard for school property and the property of others
  • Resolve conflicts peacefully, not using physical and verbal abuse
  • Show respect for self and use language that is respectful of all persons
  • Be considerate of the rights, feelings and personal space of others (i.e. no bullying or unwanted touching)
  • Respect the learning process while in the class and in the halls
  • Be truthful, co-operative and practise honesty
  • Wear full school uniform properly (Grade 1-8 students)
  • Not bring any electronic items to the school, unless parents write a letter and principal consent is given.

CONSEQUENCES FOR UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOURS:
  • Compensation and / or community service for damage to school property or loss of school goods
  • “Personal Plan” developed by student, parent and school
  • Teacher-student discussion
  • Documentation of behaviour
  • Parent-teacher communication
  • Loss of in-school privileges and class trips
  • Formal suspension (students are not allowed to attend school for a suspension period from 1-20 days)
  • Removal from class program or extra-curricular activities (school teams, school responsibilities)
  • Principal / vice-principal / teacher / student discussion
  • Temporary withdrawal from lunch program
  • Expulsion (removal from any school in the Toronto District School Board) as mandated by the Ministry of Education Safe Schools Act
These consequences are not necessarily in sequence. More than one consequence may be applied to any given situation.
