Albion Leaders

Me2We 2017

On Thursday, September 28th 2017, 8 students from Me2We Albion leaders went to the Air Canada Centre for WE Day; a supreme celebration and a manifestation of the WE movement, an ocean of people coming together to create impact founded by two brothers; Craig and Marc Kielburger. Performers and world-renowned speakers come together with inspirational stories of change and how this generation of young people are going to change the world entirely. The grand bombshell of WE day was when there was unexpected visitor, Prince Harry, grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. His entry and speech left all change-makers astounded. This was a sensational experience for our Albion Leaders and they wish to bring the essence of evolving our great future in our local area. What can you as a parent or child do to help these causes in the world? Well, throughout the school year these leaders will be organizing things like dances, candy-grams, food banks, and etc. which will be donated to several charities. “We all can make a difference in one’s life if not the whole world…” —Albion Leaders.

Albion Leaders

What are Albion Heights Leaders?

Albion Leaders is a group of volunteer students from grade 7 and 8 that create events to benefit our school. We are all about Leadership, Collaboration and giving all students the chance to give their voice. We work together as a team on initiatives within our school to promote school spirit as well as supporting our local and global communities through various causes. We have organized school dances; candy grams; and volunteered at our annual community breakfast. We have also packed backpacks with donated school materials for refugee students in our area to help them transition into the Canadian school system. We the Albion Leaders hope to create a better community and be an inspiration to younger students at Albion Heights.

Albion Leaders

The Albion Leaders’ Club is a group of grade 6, 7, & 8 students who are inspired by Ghandi’s famous quote:

“BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD.”

Supported by  their teacher sponsors – Ms. Hayhoe, Mrs. Osowsky, Mrs. Francis and Mrs. Azeem,

they run events and activities in the school, help out at school functions and model positive leadership to their peers.

Albion Leaders’ Club has a mandate to make a difference – in our school, in our local community and in the world!

Since September, they have:

  • raised over $400 for Free the Children at the Fall Dance

  • collected 7 large boxes of canned and packaged food at our annual Food Drive to support our local food bank

  • collected over $500 for the Red Cross to support Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan

  • helped out with selling Albion Heights uniform shirts

  • helped out with the Albion Heights Community Breakfast and Literacy Day

  • are planning Valentine-O-Grams sales and another Dance in March to raise money for Learning Initiatives at Albion Heights

March 2016, Lost and Found

During this morning's recess a few of the Albion Leaders worked hard at folding and organizing all of the Lost & Found items, which had piled up over the last couple of months.  The display is located in the hallway near the primary hall.
We tried to organize them as best as possible. (i.e. all hats are on one table).

Please take a few minutes to walk your students by as there are many items.  If items are not claimed by the end next week, we are bagging them and they will be donated.

Thank you for your support.

February 2016, Valentine-O-Grams

The Albion Leaders Club is selling Ring Pops to benefit learning initiatives at our school.  Students who buy 5 or more Ring Pops will have their name entered into a draw to win a special prize!  Get yours today!

January 2016, Syrian Refugee Help

The Albion Leaders' Club has filled two backpacks full of donated school supplies for two newly arrived refugees who have started attending a school in our area.  The school was thrilled to get the backpacks and pass them on to the students' family.  We are very grateful to the donors of the backpacks and the school supplies.  A big thank you to the Albion Leaders' Club for giving of your time and modelling Kindness and Compassion.

Kenya Fundraiser - May 2012

The future leaders just had a successful Family movie night on May 16th. We had a wonderful time with planning the event. We were really happy to have an unexpected turn out of approximately 100 people. Many families had a tremendous time watching The Dolphin Tale and spending quality time with their family and friends. We raised a total of $415.70. Considering this was such a successful event, hopefully we will be able to have a more outstanding attendance next year and many families will have a more enjoyable time. We thank each and every family for coming to this event because without you, it would never be possible.

Glass Donations Wanted!

April 2012

The Future Leaders Club at Albion Heights is partnering with many other schools across the TDSB to collect used glasses during the month of April. The eyeglasses will be sent to the Children's Surgical Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They will then be distributed to people who need corrective lenses but cannot afford to purchase glasses. We are collecting used children's and adult's glases as well as reading glasses. Many people have old glasses sitting around in a drawer, too valuabe to throw away but no longer being used by their owners. Now Albion Heights families can donate them and give the gift of sight and employment to people in Cambodia. Thank you in advance Albion Heights for generously supporting this worthwhile TDSB project.
