Chess Club

Chess is one of the world's most popular games played by millions of people. Chess has been shown to promote problem-solving and improved concentration for those who play it.

Albion Chess Club 2015-2016

This year we saw the return of Mr. Pak, Mr. Constantinescu and Mr. Curtis as the Primary, Junior and Intermediate Chess coaches.  There was a lot of participation in Chess Club.  The primary chess club had 90 registered players this year!

On April 29, 2016, we sent one Primary, one Junior, and one Intermediate team to Beaumonde Heights JMS to play in the West Region 1 Chess Tournament.  Our Junior Team had a strong showing and swept every game in their division to become the Junior Champions this year!  Congratulations to our Junior team members - Amman, Kushi, Felix, Kirisan and Thomas!

Our Primary and Intermediate teams faced stiff competition and had a great experience.  Our Primary team consisted of Ofari, Laila, Shivani, Swetha, and Jessica.  Our Intermediate team consisted of Taranveer B., Dhruv, Vincent, Amanda, and Raween.

We thank Mr. D. Cassar from Beaumonde Heights JMS for organizing the tournament this year and also thank Mrs. Buie and Ms Dixon for providing transportation.  The Chess Coaches worked hard all year and deserve to be proud of their Chess Clubs and Chess Teams.  Thank you for a good year and thank you to all those who came out this year to play Chess!

Albion Chess Club 2014-2015

This year, we are fortunate to have three chess coaches:

1)  Mr. Pak runs Primary Chess Club on Tuesdays in the Library;

2)  Mr. Curtis runs Intermediate Chess Club on Wednesdays in his classroom;

3)  And Mr. Constantinescu runs Junior Chess Club on Thursdays in the Library.

In Chess Club, students learn respect for each other, respect for their materials, and respect for their environment.

It is a fun environment for players of all skill levels from beginner to accomplished players.

We invite students of all ages, boys and girls, to come out and play chess on the appropriate day!

At the 2015 Chess Tournament, Albion Heights came second in every division, Primary, Junior and Intermediates.  We were well represented by all of our Chess Team members.

Albion Chess Club 2012

This year, we had an enthusiastic group of primary, junior, and intermediate students participating in the Chess Club. Mrs. Bonk, who is on the NW1 Chess Committee, also assisted with the Chess tournament preparations.

On April 10, 2012, we brought four teams to Thistletown Collegiate to participate in the NW1 5th Annual Chess Tournament.
