What is the Social and World Studies & the Humanities Department? 

The Social and World Studies & the Humanities Department is the launching pad for students to understand the world around them. The department is unique - offering a variety of courses in the disciplines of history, geography, law, politics, and economics. 


Goals of the Social and World Studies & the Humanities Department

  • Provide students with unique opportunities to learn and understand their world around them
  • Prepare students to further their development in becoming active citizens in society
  • Foster learning to ensure students are ready for university, college, or the workforce 

Compulsory Credits 

There are a few compulsory credits that students must earn as part of their high school diploma. In theSocial and World Studies & the Humanities Department, the following are compulsory credits;


  • Issues in Canadian Geography (CGC1D)
  • Canadian History Since World War 1 (CHC2D)
  • Civics and Citizen (CHV2O) *.5 Credit 

Optional Credits

This is where the Social and World Studies & the Humanities shines due to the great variety of courses the department offers at the senior level. From Law to World Issues, to Challenge and Change and Equity, the Canadian and World Studies department offers courses that engage students in understanding their surrounding world while preparing them for college, university or the workforce!
