Final Exam Notice

Under the Ontario Ministry of Education policy for the 2026–2027 school year, most secondary courses require written final exams.

All students enrolled in online Night School courses, including synchronous and asynchronous courses, must write their final exams in person, except students enrolled in Open level courses. In-person final exams are mandatory for all other students, regardless of whether their regular classes are held online.

Cameras On During Remote Synchronous Learning
 
Students participating in remote synchronous learning through Continuing Education are expected to have their cameras on during instructional time. This requirement supports student engagement, accountability, and helps create a positive and interactive virtual classroom environment. Keeping cameras on allows educators to monitor participation, offer immediate feedback, and build a sense of community that reflects the in-person learning experience. This requirement is in alignment with the Virtual Secondary School protocol.

The Toronto District School Board offers Night School credit courses that are open to all high school students and adults working towards their high school diploma. Students may take a new credit course or retake a course previously completed to upgrade their mark.

Students and adults must meet the prerequisite requirements to enroll in a Night School course. Students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to consult with their day school Guidance Counsellor to review course selections.

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) reserves the right to cancel classes. A list of cancelled courses will be posted on the “Course Offerings” page of the website seven days before the registration deadline. Students will be notified by email in advance, allowing them time to select an alternative course, if available.

Night School runs for 15 weeks per semester, with two semesters each school year. Classes are held two days a week from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • Semester 1: October to January
  • Semester 2: February to May/June

Grade 9-12 High School Students (Ages 14-20)

Students may take up to two credit courses per semester; one on Monday/Wednesday and another on Tuesday/Thursday. Alternatively, students may choose to take one course in Semester 1 and another in Semester 2.

e-Credit Adults (18+)

Adults 18+ and older who are not currently enrolled in a regular day school are eligible to register for one asynchronous e-Credit course per semester to earn a high school credit. Students enrolled in Adult Day School are also eligible to take an e-Credit course. Students enrolled in the EdVance program are not eligible to register for an e-Credit course.
