Grade 9 Mathematics
This course is designed to be inclusive of all students in order to facilitate their transition from the elementary grades to the secondary level. The Grade 9 mathematics course is designed to provide a strong foundation for all students, regardless of their future goals. It emphasizes understanding mathematical concepts and applying them to real-world situations. By engaging in mathematical processes like problem-solving, reasoning, and communication, students develop the skills they need to succeed in higher-level mathematics courses and beyond.
Senior Mathematics
The senior mathematics courses continue to build on the strong foundation laid in Grades 9 and 10. They focus on deep understanding of mathematics concepts, rather than just memorization of rules. By exploring mathematics through investigations and connecting it to real-world situations, students develop the skills to apply their knowledge in various settings and prepare for their future studies or careers.
A fundamental aspect of mathematics education is the development of problem-solving skills. Students are encouraged to approach unfamiliar problems independently, employing a variety of strategies to find solutions. A crucial skill in this process is the ability to translate real-world scenarios into mathematical models. This involves representing complex situations using diagrams, graphs, equations, or other mathematical tools. As students progress through their studies, they will refine their modelling techniques and employ more sophisticated representations.
