Happy New Year General Crerar Families! I hope that 2024 brings good health and much happiness for all.

Thank you to all families that were able to join us in December for our Perfect Fit Frosty Fest organized by our Parent Council. Below is a picture captured by the TDSB as we celebrated that wonderful event.

To foster joy in reading with your child, I would also like to invite parents/guardians in-person every Monday from 11:50 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. to our Library starting on February 5th to March 25th to participate in read-alouds with your child. This work is supported by General Crerar Staff, Salwa Mohiuddin (our Speech and Language Pathologist), and Donna Cardoza (Community Support Worker). School-home partnerships are necessary in developing strong literacy skills. Please join us.

Tamil Heritage Month is proudly recognized during the month of January at the Toronto District School Board since January 2016. Toronto has the largest Tamil population outside of the South Asian subcontinent with thousands of TDSB students and staff members who identify as Tamil. The importance of building awareness, creating a strong self and collective identities, and understanding one's own roots and rights are important objectives of the Tamil Heritage Month volunteer planning committee at the TDSB. By proclaiming the month of January as Tamil Heritage Month, the Province of Ontario recognizes the valuable contributions that Tamil Canadians have made to Ontario’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric.  Tamil Heritage Month is an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the inspirational role that Tamil Canadians have played and continue to play in communities across Ontario.

With the winter comes snow and severe weather! At times, it is necessary to cancel student transportation, classes and/or programs. On rare occasions, severe weather makes it necessary to close TDSB schools, administrative offices or sites. Visit the website to learn about Snow/Cold Weather and the Procedure for Severe Weather: https://www.tdsb.on.ca/About-Us/Severe-Weather/Snow-Cold-Weather. We know that severe weather will be part of our daily lives for the next several months. Please drive carefully around the school, especially during school arrival and dismissal times.

As you know, General Crerar has an in-school nutrition program where a healthy snack is served by 10:30 AM each morning. Please consider donating to this wonderful program by contributing via School Cash Online - the link is on our school website at: https://schoolweb.tdsb.on.ca/generalcrerar/School-Cash-Online

The staff and I are so happy and privileged to be able to serve students and families. Again, wishing all Crerar families a healthy, happy, safe, and successful 2024.

Warm regards,

Ms. Lin
