Selwyn School Advisory Council (SAC)
School councils are an excellent way for parents to get involved in their child`s education. Our school has an elected school council that is an important forum for involving all members of the school community in issues that affect the education of students. The school council advises the principal on a variety of issues and activities relating to student achievement, curriculum goals and priorities, school budget priorities, school safety, renovation plans, after school activities, fundraising and criteria for selection of new principals. The Selwyn Student Council works closely with the Home and School Association to support initiatives and program that support our children.
Monthly meetings are held where we discuss the major initiatives and ways to improve the school. We often discuss issues that are important to all of us such as:
· Our children’s successes
· What our children are learning
· The school budget
· The school’s safety & renovations
· New initiatives such as Full Day Kindergarten
· Initiatives for growth & 21st century learning
· After-school activities and fundraising
· Other matters that affect the education of our children.
You are encouraged to join us at the next meeting. Meeting dates are listed in the monthly Principal’s Update Newsletter. Did you know that a ‘Child Trend DataBank Report’ found that students with parents who are involved in their school tend to have fewer behavioural problems and better academic performance, and are more likely to complete secondary school than students whose parents are not involved in their school. Looking forward to meeting you at the next meeting! If you have any questions about the Selwyn School Council please contact the school and we can direct you to the Council members.
