In the Modern Languages and Multicultural Services department, we teach Core French as a Second Language, English as a Second Language, and Spanish as an International Language.  We also host a Multicultural Fiesta, which usually takes place in the spring of each year and a Newcomers Club for students who have arrived in Canada within the last 5 years.

Taking courses in classical studies and international languages also increases career mobility, since successful participation in the global workforce depends in part on knowledge of world languages and cultures. These courses enable students to develop many skills, abilities, and attitudes that are critical in the workplace – for example, communication and problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the ability to work with others. Students develop their ability to reason, to be flexible in their thinking, and to think critically as well as creatively

The Multicultural Fiesta is a celebration of the diversity of our school and community.

Secondary school ESL and ELD programs are generally intended to support newcomers. For their first few years in Ontario schools, many English language learners receive support in one of the following two distinct programs designed to meet their language learning needs and/or to help them develop the literacy skills they need to continue their education and participate fully in life in Ontario:

English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are intended for students whose first language is a language other than English or is a variety of English significantly different from that used for instruction in Ontario schools. Students in these programs have age-appropriate first-language literacy skills and educational backgrounds.
