Update on Negotiations from TDSB

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

We want to take this opportunity to update you on labour negotiations with secondary contract teachers represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation District 12 (OSSTF) and to advise you on the impact of their labour action on final report cards.

As you may know, the OSSTF has not yet reached a local collective agreement with the TDSB and is continuing its strike-related action by withdrawing selected services. As a result, OSSTF has directed high school teachers to only provide marks on final report cards and to withhold any additional information about student achievement (teacher comments). The OSSTF has also directed high school teachers not to provide teacher comments to Principals and Vice-Principals.

As some students will not receive their report cards in the mail until July, students and parents should contact teachers directly by June 30 should they have questions or concerns about student progress.

The TDSB is disappointed that we have not been able to reach an agreement with the OSSTF and we regret that they are directing teachers to take this action.

The TDSB has successfully negotiated local collective agreements with all of our employee groups, except OSSTF. We want to assure you that the TDSB is committed to reaching a fair contract agreement with the OSSTF and we are prepared to continue negotiations over the summer break to reach an agreement.

As always, please continue to monitor the TDSB website at www.tdsb.on.ca and social media (@TDSB on Twitter or Toronto District School Board on Facebook) for any updates on negotiations.

Entrance Restrictions

Special restrictions have been put in place to control the enrolment of Riverdale to ensure the school population does not greatly exceed the building capacity. Riverdale C.I. is a closed school that only accepts students in regular program who are going from grade 8 to grade 9. Students must apply by March 1 of their grade 8 year to be eligible for admittance. Riverdale does not admit students after this point. Please contact the school to determine if you are eligible for admission.

Attendance, Lates and Signing Out

Being in class every day, on-time and ready to learn is essential for all students.
If a student is going to be away from school please follow the procedures outlined in this letter.

When a student is more than 15 minutes late for school, they must sign-in at the Attendance Office. If they are late because of an appointment, or similar situation, it is best if they arrive at school with a note indicating why they are late.

If a student needs to leave before the end of the school day, we must have contact with a legal guardian before they can leave. The best way for them to do this is to have a note from home when they come to sign-out. Where this is not possible, we will need to contact a guardian before they are able to leave which may cause delays.

Many of our students attend Jummah Prayer on Fridays. In order to accommodate this, we have a letter for families to sign giving permission for students to sign-out weekly. If this applies to your, please complete the form available below. Mosque Permission Form Sept 2014.doc
