School Council

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETINGS

School Councils work to improve student achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents and caregivers. They are legislated and governed by Regulation 612 of the Education Act.

School Councils work inclusively, recognizing that all parents/caregivers have an equitable place in our school's community, free from racism, classism, and other isms, intentional or unintentional. They recognize that participation can take many forms and work to:

  • offer parents/caregivers a variety of ways to share their voices, knowledge, and expertise
  • recognize that relationship building is key to breaking down walls and barriers
  • strive to identify and eliminate barriers to participation for parents/caregivers
  • disrupt practices that contribute to oppression based on race, class, nationality, abilities, gender, education, or language

Information about the Nomination and Election Process for the 2025-2026 School Council will be sent electronically in late August 2025 and are found below. All School Council Members are volunteers.

School Council

The Riverdale School Council is a group of volunteer parents, school staff, and representatives from the Student Council. We meet once a month to discuss matters affecting our school and our students. If you are a parent/guardian of a Riverdale student, you have the right to participate in the Council and are welcome to attend all meetings.

At our meetings, we deal with issues such as safety, EQAO student testing, special initiatives, and community engagement. We consult on school committees, according to TDSB mandates. We also have guests join us to speak about issues like course selection, and parenting teens.

The School Council also plays an important role in the flow of information between the School Board and the school community. We participate in our Ward 15 Council with our area Superintendent & elected Trustee, as well as on PIAC (Parent Involvement Advisory Committee) initiatives.

Most importantly, the Riverdale School Council plays an important role in your child’s education. Parental involvement is directly linked to student achievement. We are always working on ways to communicate with our families to improve our children’s success.
