Welcome to the Music Department!

Home to over 500 students each year, our Music Department is a thriving community built on performance, artistic growth, and lifelong friendships. Led by four dedicated specialists, our program offers a traditional foundation in Band, Strings, and Vocal music while exploring music from all eras, cultures and genres. While many students join in Grade 9 to earn an Arts credit, the strong sense of belonging and the rich whole-brain learning of the music classroom inspire many to stay for all four years. Additionally, students are able to engage in a hands-on experience, free of screen time and AI influences.

Our ensembles cater to all experience levels, from beginners discovering an instrument for the first time to advanced performers:

• Band Ensembles: Beginner Band, Junior Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Junior Jazz Band, and Senior Jazz Band.
• Strings Ensembles: Beginner Strings, Concert Strings, Senior Strings, and Symphony Orchestra.
• Vocal Ensembles: Choral Ensemble, Senior Choir, Treble Choir, and the Bari-Tones.

Students perform at our Winter and/or Spring Concerts, specialized department-themed nights, intimate small ensemble showcases, and our annual Senior Showcase in June. Beyond our school walls, our ensembles proudly represent us at provincial festivals and bring music to the broader community with performances at local elementary schools and senior residences.

The music rooms are open before school, lunch, and after school for practice, or extra help through appointments. When teachers aren’t available due to meetings or ensemble rehearsals, senior student volunteers are always willing to help!
