Specialized Art Program Admission Guidelines


Students wishing to apply for the Specialized Art must submit their application online. Admission to the Specialized Art Program adheres to the Optional Attendance regulations as stated by the TDSB. Should applications exceed the space available in the program, a lottery will be held to determine acceptance to the program.

Important Dates 

Please note the following important dates for your application:

  • January 29, 2021: Deadline to apply for Optional Attendance and the Specialized Art Program
  • February 12, 2021: Deadline for schools to notify applicants of the acceptance/non-acceptance to the program
    • Applicants to the Central Tech Specialized Art program will be notified by email the week of Monday February 8 to Friday, February 12 
  • February 26, 2021: Final date for students to confirm their acceptance into the Specialized Art Program by submitting their course selection sheet to Central Technical School

Application Process and Portfolio Requirements 

To complete their online application, students will be required to submit the following: 

  1. Letter of Intent: a written statement (approx. 250-300 words) explaining:
    1. Why they want to attend the Central Tech Specialised Art Program and why they think this program is a good fit for them
    2. What inspired them to create their artwork, some of their strengths as an artist, and some areas where they hope to grow or develop as an artist
    3. What they are most proud of in their artwork and what they would change if they could recreate it  
  2. Digital Sketchbook: 5-7 photos of sketches from your sketchbook
  3. Digital Portfolio: 5-7 artworks (photographs may be submitted for 3-D work) demonstrating emerging proficiency in a variety of media 
  4. Completed Optional Attendance Form: this form is required if Central Technical School is not your designated high school (i.e. if you do not live within the Central Tech catchment area)
