Specialized Art Program Admission Guidelines

 

Students wishing to apply for the Specialized Art Program must submit their application online. Admission to the Specialized Art Program adheres to the Optional Attendance regulations as stated by the TDSB. Should applications exceed the space available in the program, a lottery will be held to determine acceptance to the program.

Important Dates 

Please note the following important dates for your application:

  • Friday January 28, 2022: Deadline to apply for Optional Attendance and the Specialized Art Program
  • Friday February 11, 2022: Deadline for schools to notify applicants of the acceptance/non-acceptance to the program
    • Applicants to the Central Tech Specialized Art program will be notified by email the week of Monday February 7 to Friday February 11 
  • Friday February 22, 2022: Final date for students to confirm their acceptance into the Specialized Art Program by submitting their course selection sheet to Central Technical School

Application Process and Portfolio Requirements 

To complete their online application, students will be required to submit the following: 

1.    Confirmation of Submitted Optional Attendance Form: You will not need to submit this file. You will only need to confirm that you have submitted it to your elementary school principal (who will then forward it to Central Tech)

2.    Letter of Intent: a written statement (approx. 250-300 words) in response to the following questions:

       a.   Why do you want to attend the Central Tech Specialised Art Program? Why do you think this program is a good fit for you? 

       b.   What inspired you to create your artwork? What are some of your strengths as an artist? What are some areas in which you hope to grow or develop as an artist?

       c.   What are you most proud of in your artwork? What would you change if you could recreate it?  

3.    Digital Sketchbook: 5-7 photos of sketches from your sketchbook

4.    Digital Portfolio: 5-7 examples of your artwork that demonstrates emerging proficiency in a variety of media. Photographs may be submitted for paintings and 3-D work.
