Science @ Jefferys

SIPP

The science program at C.W. Jefferys is designed to address the needs of our diverse and multicultural student population. Our courses have a large hands-on focus that allow students to conduct inquiries and explore fundamental science concepts.

The science program is complemented with partnerships with the Ontario Science Centre, the Metro Toronto Zoo, the Royal Ontario Museum, Ryerson SciExchange Program, and the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University Observatory.

Our overall goal is to promote scientific literacy (defined in The Ontario Curriculum as “The possession of the scientific knowledge, skills, and habits of mind required to thrive in the science-based world of the twenty-first century.”), to help students understand the practical applications of science, and to develop critical thinking skills. Throughout the program, students are held to high standards and are encouraged to develop their potential.

Enrichment Opportunities beyond the Classroom:

  • Lassonde School of Engineering Summer Program: This program was developed to provide an opportunity for students in our community to receive mentorship through work with a university or college faculty member. Selected students receive a credit and are paid a stipend.
  • University of Toronto Summer Mentorship Program. Selected students receive a credit and are paid a stipend.
  • The Black Summer Student Leadership Program at TDSB. Students receive mentorship and are paid a stipend.
