Tuesday, February 18, 2020 10:18 AM

Dear Northern Families,

Thank You to all the families who were able to get an appointment/ attend parent-teacher interviews this week. Also thank you to our staff and the Northern Buddies for making yesterday night run so smoothly.

This coming week we will be running our African Heritage Assembly on Wednesday. This adjusts Wednesday to an assembly day schedule.

At this point, it also looks very likely that school will be out on Friday February 21st as OSSTF members continue to advocate for better conditions for students in schools. If there are any changes to this planned job action you will receive a follow up message next week.

The school has recently had a generous donation of a grand piano from Ms. Joyce Hisey. Ms. Hisey is the grandmother of Northern grad Patrick Chappell. The piano now resides in our auditorium. Thank You Ms. Hisey!

Coronavirus Message from the TDSB:

We are writing to provide you with an update from Toronto Public Health with regards to the novel coronavirus. While public health agencies continue to advise that the risk to the public remains low, they have updated their recommendations with regards to people travelling from China:

Travellers from Hubei Province:

If you have travelled to Hubei Province in the last 14 days:

• Limit your contact with others for a total of 14 days from the date that you left Hubei. This means self-isolate and stay at home.

• Contact your local public health department within 24 hours of arriving in Canada.

• For Toronto residents, contact Toronto Public Health at 416-338-7600.

Travellers from Mainland China:

If you have travelled from mainland China in the last 14 days:

• Monitor yourself for respiratory symptoms including fever, cough and difficulty breathing.

• Should these respiratory symptoms develop within 14 days after returning to Canada, stay home and seek medical care immediately.

• Call your healthcare provider or your local public health department about symptoms and travel history before seeking medical care.

• Remember, staying home when you are sick prevents the spread of respiratory viruses, such as influenza, which also circulate at this time of the year

These recommendations and other important information are included in the following letter from Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health:

Toronto Medical Officer of Health Letter

Toronto Public Health has also created the following Fact Sheet with additional information:

The TDSB continues to work closely with Toronto Public Health and will share any new information with families once it becomes available.
