From the Music Department:

The Strings students enjoyed a very interesting Workshop on a Baroque Violin and Viola D'Amore instruments on Monday, March 2nd by the Tafelmusik Orchestra viola player, Mr. Thomas Georgi.

Early February Band students had a very successful Masterclasses with the Professional Musicians and the U of T professors: Anita Aliston - trumpet, Bruce Redstone- Alto Sax and Richard Moore-percussion instruments. The Masterclasses were focused on the technique.

On March 4th approx. 600 Music students from GTA schools visited our school for the Combined Choir Rehearsal in preparation for the Annual "Sounds of Toronto Concert" on April 22 at Roy Thomson Hall. They were accompanied by Agincourt Collegiate's Concert Band and the Runnymede Collegiate Steel Pan Ensemble.

Strings and Band students performed at the Hazelton Place and the Amica on the Avenue Retirement Residencies last week. They performed beautifully. They were very well received. Mr. Grisdale- Life Enrichment Manager from the Hazelton Place Retirement Residency said " Northern students were incredible. I'm still receiving great feedback from residents. It was the highlight of their week! "

The students have an open invitation for future engagements at both places.

Share Your Voice: Policy Consultation on the new Specialized Schools and Programs Policy -- The TDSB offers specialized programs across the district from CyberArts programs to International Baccalaureate, arts-focused schools to specialized programs in math, science and technology. We are committed to our specialized programs and schools and value the variety and opportunity they bring to our students and their school experiences.

As part of our Secondary Program Review, we are making updates to current policies and procedures, including the addition of a new policy – the Specialized Schools and Programs policy – which will allow us to be clearer when it comes to admission procedures, practices an timelines, which differ from those in regular schools. Together, this new policy and review will help more students have access to these programs.

Please share your voice to help make this policy meaningful and relevant to you. This short video gives a great overview of the new policy. Then, head to the policy consultation page and share your thoughts. The consultation is open until April 20, 2020.
