Good Evening Northern Families,

It is hard to believe we have arrived at the May long weekend. I hope all our students and their families get some time to decompress and unwind. I have tried to remove some repeated content this week. There is still time for student leadership applications found below- including an addition this week. Next week the Minister of Education is expected to give a clearer indication of what the remainder of the school year will look like. Once the Board has this information we will work to share a TDSB/ Northern plan with you. We know there are many questions you are waiting to hear answers on- communication will be shared as soon as possible.

Please see Trustee Chernos Lin’s latest newsletter HERE .

*Bursary Opportunity* - Attention Graduating Students:

From Rob Oliphant (MP for Eglinton West):

Once again, I am pleased to offer a Member of Parliament’s Citizenship Award to an outstanding student who is graduating from Northern Secondary School this year to help recognize the impact they have made in our community. A successful recipient of this award will be a student who has guided or inspired others through strong leadership and enriched the lives of their fellow peers or community members. This student will have demonstrated exemplary citizenship by assisting newcomers to successfully integrate into the community or helping promote active citizenship by helping remove barriers, change attitudes and reinforce principles of tolerance and respect. Having taken an active role in community leadership and helping foster a stronger sense of belonging to all those in our community, this student will be recognized for the positive impact they have made. In recognition of the efforts made by this exemplary student I will be donating a $300 bursary as part of the award.

Qualified applicants should write a one page explanation detailing why they are deserving of this award and include references who may be contacted to verify your leadership role and experience. Please submit this application by 9am on Monday, May 25, 2020 via email to: Jennifer.MacPhee@tdsb.on.ca. All applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee and only the successful recipient will be contacted. The Citizenship Award will be awarded at Commencement.
