Good Afternoon Northern Families,

It’s hard to believe we have been back over a week and fall is officially here. This week we have made an effort to get students into the building as quickly as possible and are very close to getting everyone in and screened in 15 minutes. Thank you to everyone- students and families- for getting the app installed on smartphone wherever possible. It definitely makes a big difference to the screening time\. We have been fortunate with the weather and classes have taken advantage of outdoor spaces for walking/ snack breaks and outdoor classrooms on greenspace on school grounds.

Tuesday is a staff meeting day. This means a slight adjustment to the hours of the day. Morning classes will end at 12:05 and afternoon synchronous classes will run from 1:35pm-2:35pm. These meetings are scheduled once a month and can be found in the school calendar

Please note that Wednesday is Orange Shirt Day. Regardless of whether you are at home or in the building please make an effort to wear orange! The “orange shirt” in Orange Shirt Day refers to the new shirt that Phyllis Webstad was given to her by her grandmother for her first day of school at St. Joseph’s Mission residential school in British Columbia. When Phyllis got to school, they took away her clothes, including her new shirt. It was never returned. To Phyllis, the colour orange has always reminded her of her experiences at residential school and, as she has said, “how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared.” The message that Phyllis wants to pass along on Orange Shirt Day — and every day — is that every child matters. Orange Shirt Day was started by Phyllis to educate people about residential schools and fight racism and bullying.
