Good Afternoon Northern Families,

It is absolutely incredible to think we are half-way through this tumultuous school year. Congratulations to everyone for making it this far and completing an interesting quadmester! We hope you had a good day to recover from the academic push of the past couple of weeks today. A reminder that Monday is a Day 1 and will follow the same schedule as we have been working with since the New Year. Many details coming in next week’s bulletin about how things will look starting on the 16th. A reminder next week is a 4 day week (one complete cycle of classes) and that Monday the 15th is Family Day.

We have some changes to staff that were anticipated at the midyear point and one position we are working to fill. Updates to come, but please bear with us next week as access to online classes is sorted out for new teachers.

Thank you to the Music Council, our amazing musicians, Mr. Newman, and Mr. Jameer for an amazing Winterlude Concert last night. If you missed it you can still check it out here: Winterlude Video

Important save the date- the SAC and Buddies will be hosting a virtual Club Fair on February 16th at 4pm. More details next week.

All students and parents are invited to attend this virtual presentation about:

(1) Advanced Placement courses (and whether these might be a good choice for you to request in myBlueprint);

(2) thinking ahead to plan and prepare applications and sources of funding for Post-Secondary Education; and

(3) a lot of really interesting, diverse, and fun in person and virtual Enrichment Opportunities throughout high school, summer holidays, and other school breaks.

GAC presents: “ADHD Highlights: What You Need to Know About ADHD” - Tuesday March 2 at 7:00 p.m.

GAC is excited to invite all parents, students, and educators to hear a presentation by Heidi Bernhardt, founder of CADDAC, the Center for ADHD Awareness, Canada.

Her presentation will start by debunking the myths of ADHD and explaining what ADHD actually is. She’ll look at how ADHD impacts an adolescent’s functioning in the home and school environment and the increased risks to kids with ADHD as they move into adolescence.

She’ll also look at what a comprehensive assessment of ADHD looks like and how ADHD is diagnosed and treated. She’ll discuss ways to support adolescents with ADHD at home, and ways to advocate for resources in Ontario schools. Additional links to resources will be provided during the presentation and access given to the Power Point following the presentation. We encourage you to try to attend the live virtual presentation in person, to hear the additional detail and Q & A of Heidi’s very considerable knowledge and experience. Please send an email to northerngifted@gmail.com to obtain the meeting link. We hope that you can join us!

Have a great weekend!

Adam
