Northern Secondary School

May 13th, 2022

Tuesday, May 17, 2022 09:25 AM

Good Evening Northern Families,

OSSLT days are finally complete. Thank You to Ms. Peel for co-ordinating the test for over 900 students! This is a larger number than many schools. A huge task. For everyone this means no more half-day classes, no doubt a relief!

I failed to thank the WellNSS team last week. A great series of messages and events were delivered during Mental Health Week. Thank You to our staff and student leadership!

The School Council meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday May 18th has been moved to Wednesday May 25th. More information can be found below.

Congratulations to Northern’s Tennis Team for winning 17 medals today at the South Region Finals!

Gold: Amelie Gal, Carolina Aramayo, Chase Stark, Annabelle Chipperton, Erynn Levy.

A massive thank you to our coaches Mr. Oki and Mr. Chumak!

Last Day of Classes: June 23

Conversation Starters: (follow-up and a new starter)

Follow Up: Reflect back to your conversation from last week. What parts of your identity make things “easier” at home, school, work, in society? What parts of your identity make things “harder” or “more challenging” at home, school, work, in society?

Some thoughts: It is not an easy task to work through last week’s questions. Sometimes it is difficult to be honest with ourselves. Sometimes it is hard to recognize these things without someone else pointing them out….someone slightly removed from your own headspace- could be a friend, parent, peer etc. This is why conversation is important- perspective!

This Week’s Conversation Starter: Do you have any control over the parts of your identity you discussed over the past several weeks? Are any of the components yours to decide upon? Or are they just part of you? Put another way, which ones did you choose and which ones just “are”?

N.S.S. Cooperative Education Partners Wanted

Cooperative Education at Northern is made possible each year through the continuing support of placement supervisors, local businesses and employers. Strong community partnerships are essential in providing our students with the rich, relevant work experiences a good placement can provide.

As a Cooperative Education Partner, you can play a valuable role in helping a Northern student develop skills, knowledge and work habits they will remember and refer to throughout their lives. As well, these partnerships are mutually beneficial as our students will bring new ideas, fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and additional support to your workplace.

We have a number of Northern students looking for Co-op placements in a variety of fields starting in mid-September, 2022/23. If you are interested in becoming a placement supervisor for one of our students or know of a local business opportunity, please email john.giles@tdsb.on.ca or linda.duffy@tdsb.on.ca to learn about how you can become a Northern Cooperative Education Partner.
