Good Evening Northern Families,

This Bulletin is arriving to most when summer has already started.  Congratulations on a fantastic year!  For anyone that is coming in Monday and/ or Tuesday for Credit Rescue, you are almost there- really give it everything ahead of report card distribution.  There will be an additional email sent on July 6th that will totally wrap up the year and provide some information for the fall.  I will keep tonight’s bulletin brief as there is limited information to pass along.  For anyone already on break have a healthy and safe summer!

Yearbooks- you may recall the repeated message for Student Activity Fees in earlier bulletins.  Those fees include the Yearbook.  We have had MANY ask how to get a yearbook.  We will have approximately 70 yearbooks for sale Monday morning at 9am in the Lobby.  $35 (exact funds) until we run out of books Monday morning for anyone that has asked.  There are no holds, reservations etc.  We are trying to make this as fair as possible.  Please remember the importance of ordering a yearbook through Student Activity Fees next year!  For anyone who has not had a chance to pick up their Yearbook (and pre-paid) you can also come to the lobby between 9-10am Monday to pick it up.  Thank You.

It is a time of year where retirements are announced.  This year one of Northern’s EA’s in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing department is retiring.  Please see a great story the CBC ran about Joan Jewison here:  https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/beloved-tdsb-ea-retiring-1.6489428

The TDSB’s latest edition of Hearts and Minds  is now available.  The TDSB Summer-Well Being guide is also out here:  Summer Well-Being Guide

In science news, congratulations to Northern student Lynsey Moses, one of the winners of the MErai STEM writing contest. Lynsey's article is about a 'New Clinical Trial For Type 1 Diabetes Involving Stem Cells'.

A message from our Dance Teacher Ms. Vibert:

This semester we have been working very hard at creating dance works to share with you.

I would like to welcome you all to view our Virtual Dance Night 2022!

Please take some time to enjoy what our Northern student's have worked so hard at creating and performing. They have truly done a fantastic job and I am so proud of each one of them.

Enjoy the show!

Topics include self-motivation, digital use, anxiety and wellbeing as well as insights and the latest research on ADHD, giftedness, dyslexia, and autism.

2) Thank-a-teacher - as we approach the end of our school year, we encourage parents to write a quick email to teachers, staff, coaches or administrators to recognize the efforts they've put forth to keep student success a priority amidst a year of many challenges. We all could use a little boost to help reach the finish line, and we appreciate their efforts to make this entire year as meaningful as possible!

Lumenus Community Services:  SUMMER EDITION:
Lumenus Community Services provides a registered psychotherapist , Dale Callender, on-site, full time at Northern, to work in partnership with the existing school support services during the school academic year which ended on June 23rd, 2022.

The service uses an early intervention model and supports students by allowing them easy and immediate access to mental health and counselling services provided through the In-School service. Dale Callender works in collaboration with TDSB staff in order to customize supports to enhance the mental health services that they may need and wish to access. This program allows Northern priority access to Lumenus’ mental health service program, and offers students a seamless referral process to other community programs as dictated by their individual needs. The service will not be operational during the summer months – July/August 2022.

If anyone would like to consult and /or set up a time to talk with Dale, you can contact him via his email at dalecallender@lumenus.ca after August 25th, 2022

Summer mental health and support options are available via the YWHO walk in…see attachment .

Have a great weekend/ summer depending on your circumstances!
