Good Evening Northern Families,

We have just come in from an exciting afternoon of football. I would have to think 1000+ showed up to watch. Non- Northern students/ spectators had a fee at the gate and funds raised will go to the Toronto Council Fire (you may remember the group visited us last year) in honour of Orange Shirt Day. Thank You to everyone who came to support the teams and contribute! Both Junior and Senior teams had big wins over Lawrence Park spurred on by our newly resuscitated Cheer Team! Thank You to all staff that helped make it a success as coaches and supervisors of the event.

We had a great Club Fair (weather was finally agreeable) yesterday with a huge turnout. Thanks to our student leaders and staff sponsors for making it such a success.

Next Thursday and Friday you will receive mark updates from all teachers/ classes. These will serve as a progress report to help and inform you on which teachers you might want to visit on parent/guardian -teacher interview night (Thursday October 20th). Next Friday’s bulletin will include details regarding how to sign up for interview night.

Here are the “Five Things You Need to Know about Northern Next Week”:

  1. Tuesday: Yom Kippur Begins
  2. Wednesday: Yom Kippur ends
  3. Thursday: Afrofest at Lunch
  4. Thursday: Academic Awards Ceremony- Period 1 (by invitation)
  5. Friday: PD Day!

We are currently looking for volunteers from our parent community to help our student leaders prepare food (before and after school) and possibly help out during school hours. If you are interested in getting involved, please complete this form.

More about our programming:

One in every four children in Toronto lives in poverty and 40% of all children come to school hungry. At Northern, we believe that when you have enough healthy food to eat, you feel energized, can concentrate in class and perform well in school. Our program is funded by the Toronto Foundation for Student Success and supported by our school and community to deliver healthy and nutritious food to you.

Any questions regarding student success can be directed to april.vibert@tdsb.on.ca

Absences and Notes

If a student is absent from school, the parent or guardian must call the VP office before 8:50 a.m. with the student name and reason for the absence. After an absence, students must bring a note of explanation signed and dated by their parent or guardian to the VP office for entry on the computer; the student will then present the note to his/her teachers. Students who are 18 years of age or older may write their own notes. Alternatively, parents have the option of reporting a student absence via e-mail at northern@tdsb.on.ca.
