By: Akshiya

Our new Banting and Best Junior Journalists have arrived!

With many events going on at the school, this team of young writers, photographers, editors, investigators, reporters, and coordinators, along with Mr. Ly, will be working hard to update our school website. Our crew consists of 21 dedicated Grade 6s, 7s & 8s. Without further ado, here they are.

THE BOSS

Mr. Ly
(aka "Big Boss Man")

Mr. Ly

“My name is Mr. Ly and I suppose people might describe me as caring, silly and...vain (though I’m really not!). What do I love about Junior Journalists this year? I'm used to doing the school's website by myself so I'm happy to have free labour...oops, I meant I'm happy to finally have help with the task. In all honesty, I love giving students opportunities to display leadership at school. As a teacher, I really enjoy opportunities to work with different students at school that aren't students in my classroom. Banting and Best is the 'best' school because of the unique and wonderful combination of awesome teachers and amazing students.”

“I am ambitious, positive, and obedient. I decided to become a Junior Journalist, because I enjoy writing, and want to improve my leadership skills, by joining a club that allows me to interact and socialize other people. Being in Junior Journalists is a great opportunity for me to improve my language and photography skills. Being in Junior Journalists gives me a feeling that I'm doing something special for my school, and showing what our students are capable of. Well, there are COUNTLESS reasons why Banting and Best is the 'Best' school. First of all, we are LITERALLY the 'best' school (ironically). We are also unique, because we do the sign language for O Canada, which signifies us as an inclusive school. The students and teachers are all really supportive and kind, so I think that is what makes B & B the 'best' school in the world."

Nilakshana
(aka "Shana")

Nilakshana

"I'm intelligent, adaptive, and diligent. I decided to become a Junior Journalist because I knew it would improve my language and leadership skills. It was also a way for me to get involved in the school. I can help create and build on the school websites by editing the articles, and taking pictures. Joining this team was also a way to bond with new people. B&B is the 'best' school because we have so much opportunities at a young age, such as the sign language we do to O Canada. If these reason don’t prove it, we even have ‘Best” in our name. And dedicated teachers who helped us with each step of our way to Grade 8. If these reason don’t prove it, we even have ‘Best' in our name."

Seeing my work on a website that's public makes me proud of myself. In Junior Journalist, everyone can express their thoughts and think about ideas for the website. We can also work together and that can help us build stronger friendships. There is also a lot to learn as I start to learn how to add things to websites. What makes Banting and Best great?
