Learning Goal

If students learn the universal principles of surviving outdoors (shelter, fire, water, food), then they will learn the transferable problem solving skills needed for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Possible Sequence of the Day

The framing question focuses the learning of the day. Students will be introduced to the sacred order of survival (Shelter, Fire, Water, Food) and the problem-solving strategy of Sit, Think, Observe, Plan, Proceed (STOPP) Students explore how to build a shelter and fire, how to find clean water and how to find food in to the wild. Student groups will be challenged to use the survival skills they have learned to respond to survival scenario using a basic survival kit. This will all be followed by a debrief.
