Forest Valley offers experiential opportunities for students to gain awareness of Indigenous perspectives and pedagogy and develop an understanding of the land and our connections to it.
Through amplifying the voices of Indigenous scholars and teachers, these program will explore the land of Forest Valley with the intention of fostering student’s connections to the natural environment. This immersive program is flexible and interdisciplinary and has the potential to be tailored to the needs and interests of the visiting classes.
Students can have the opportunity to have a cookout lunch which visiting teachers organize prior to the trip..
Possible activities can include:
- Classes can choose an art program such as watercolour, or sketching;
- Explore through a guided hike and tour that highlights diverse relationships with plants, and explore the natural history of the many medicinal plants on the land. Students can learn how to responsibly harvest cedar and make nutritious cedar tea;
- Weather permitting, take a guided hike on snowshoes;
- Inquire into the historical, cultural and political significance of Wampum Belts.
